I truly believe that 80% of the golf swing is a result of how well or how poorly you set up to the golf ball. The grip is arguably the most important of the pre-swing fundamentals because it is the link between our body and the club. Not only is it important to hold on to the club properly, it is very important that you put your hands on the handle of the club consistently. A good, technically sound and consistent grip will give you the best opportunity to hit quality golf shots. Please review the following bullet points to ensure a proper hold on the handle:
- Primarily the fingers of both hands - not in the palms, should hold the handle of the club.
- The "V's" that are formed between your thumbs and forefingers on both hands should point toward your right shoulder for a right handed golfer.
- You should hold the club firmly, but not tight!
These are the three most common mistakes golfers make with their grip. Performing these points correctly will promote maximum club speed and allow you to square your clubface at impact.
